How to keep kids entertained at an event

One concern for many people is how to keep all of the kids entertained during their wedding or party. One idea is to set up a kid friendly table with lots of toys an activities to keep them occupied such as coloring books and crayons, stickers, toys or even a fun interactive centerpiece.

For an outdoor event, a small tent could be set up with fun games like corn hole. Hire a babysitter to keep an eye on the kids and to keep them engaged. If the event is in a hotel, a separate guest room or board room could be used for games or something as simple as a movie and popcorn. Again utilizing a babysitter to keep the kids together and engaged is a great idea.

When blending families in a wedding ceremony, the children can play a role in the ceremony to make them feel they are also a part of the special day. If the child is old enough, he or she could be the guest book attendant, pass out programs, the traditional flower girl or ring bearer, and they can pass out favors or bubbles at the end of the night. A new popular toy for the ring bearer and flower girl are bubble guns they can shoot while walking down the aisle.

During the party, there are lots of fun options your caterer can help you set up that kids will love. Ice cream sundae bars, candy buffets, cookie buffets, dessert buffets, cotton candy machines and popcorn machines are just a few ideas.

Brooke and Patrick were married this summer at The Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge. The ceremony overlooking the golf course was beautiful. Guests moved inside for cocktails under the grand staircase. Then on to the ballroom for dinner and dancing. The bride did most of the decor herself including the centerpieces. The bride and her sister created so many DIY projects, the wedding definitely showed the bride's sense of style. The wedding included a bunch of custom touches such as the beer garden, cornhole games, linens and pillows, photo booth and dessert buffet. Back in April we were booked for a ceremony coordination package. This includes a visit to the ceremony site approx. 2 months before the wedding to review details, coordination of the rehearsal, then overseeing the set up and coordination of the actual ceremony. Lisa and Andy love spending time on Lake Norman, so the beach front site in Jetton Park in Cornelius was the perfect setting for their wedding. Green is my favorite color so I dug through The Knot's website for a little inspiration to help us all get in the mood for a great St. Patrick's Day Celebration. I love the idea of incorporating succulents into your centerpieces. I was just at Lowe's the other day and browsed through their selection of succulents. This could make a cute DIY project for your green themed wedding. Pops of green can also be brought in with yummy mojitos, fruits, candies and custom invites without overpowering the whole color scheme. Pair green with shades of yellow, blue, purple or brown.

Kristin and Paul's Wedding

Kristin and Paul were married in October at Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in Belmont, NC. The morning ceremony took place in the beautiful white garden. The bride walked in to the sounds of an acoustical guitar. Afterwards guests enjoyed the lemonade station and hors d'oeuvre. The party moved inside to the grand ballroom which was decorated with gorgeous linens and centerpieces of orange and cream flowers atop vases of green apples. The bride has been a ballroom dancer for years and with a little help choreographed an elegant first dance with her groom. Guests dined on a yummy buffet by Something Classic Catering. Then came time for a fun toast by the bride's father then a very special dance between the bride and her father. He is also a ballroom dancer and they had just about everyone in the room in tears during their dance. It was a very touching moment that we were honored to witness. The guests had fun dancing to the tunes spun by Bethany at All the Right Grooves. The wedding was beautiful but it's only the beginning of a lifetime of loving memories for this couple. Congratulations and enjoy your trip to Italy!

Kathryn & Trent's Wedding

Kathryn and Trent were married in Oct. at Deerpond Plantation, a beautiful oasis in the middle of Charlotte. The bride incorporated so many personal details that all came together perfectly. The floral centerpieces sat on top of a stack of the couple's favorite books. Guest favors were personalized bookmarks tying in the couple's love for reading. In place of a standard sign in book, guests wrote their messages to the couple on mini chalk boards while a friend of the bride took their photos. Afterwards the photos will create a really unique guest book that the couple can enjoy for years to come. The horse and carriage was a great addition to the day. As the bride and her father rode down from the house to the ceremony site in the carriage I, who never cries at weddings, almost lost it and cried like a baby at the beauty of that special moment that I will not soon forget. And if anyone ever asks, I will blame it on the sun in my eyes. Kathryn and Trent's friends and family were so kind and welcoming. The night flew by and before we knew it, the bride and groom were off to their honeymoon in Hawaii. We wish them the best in all they do!! Congrats!

Katy and Jack were married in April at Holy Spirit Church in Denver, NC. The church was beautifully decorated by Stacey at Willow Branch Flowers and Design in Mooresville. The reception was hosted and catered by Verdict Ridge Golf Club also in Denver. Lisa at Elizabethan Delights created a unique cake in the bride's blue and yellow color scheme which also showcased sugar replicas of the hydrangea and orchids that Stacey used to decorate the dining room. First Impressions Linen provided the elegant ivory damask linens. Dana at Orange Cat Photo captured every moment of the day. Just looking at the photos now makes me remember how much fun the whole day was for everyone. Drew at Audio To Go kept the guests on the dance floor all night!

A huge thanks goes out to all of the vendors that made Katy and Jack's day so special!!

Varying shades of the bright and bold color mixed with neutrals can provide a vibrant ambiance for your guests.
